Getting A New Kitchen Designed For Your Home

Getting A New Kitchen Designed For Your Home

Getting a new kitchen designed for your home is an exciting proposition. Not only does it have the allure of the new, it also promises the appearance which often can only be attained by using the services of a professional designer.

For a designer to make plans for the kitchen which will perfectly fit both your needs and tastes, he or she will have to interview you and ask about several different things. The obvious questions will pertain to how you intend to use your kitchen. Do you do a lot of baking? Do you like to make old-fashioned roasts, or are you into quick and easy meals? These and other questions will let the designer know what types of appliances you are most likely to use and what types of layouts are most suited for you.

You should look in home design magazines, and show the designer pictures of kitchens you like. If you can get swatches or samples of materials you like, show those as well. This will let him or her know which styles and materials appeal to you. Make sure to choose a designer who is willing to work with your tastes, rather than trying to impose his own taste on you. Remember, you’re paying the designer, and not the other way around. If the designer can’t handle having undesirable ideas vetoed, find a different one.

The designer will also need to know your budget. It would do no good to have a kitchen designed if it turned out there would be no way you could afford the items in the resulting plan. Conversely, if your budget is greater than the current appearance of the house suggests—something which can easily happen if, for instance, your career has improved since it was bought—you may have to explicitly let the designer know that you can, indeed, afford the high-end options, so he doesn’t choose materials which are below your current expectations.

Make sure to prepare for the construction phase of your new kitchen. Keep your living and cooking areas separate, so you and the contractors aren’t tripping over each other. Also consider having construction done during seasons where it’s possible to cook outdoors. If you have the work done during the winter, you may need to set up a temporary kitchenette elsewhere in the house so you can cook without interference to or from the remodeling crew.

The final consideration for the installation of new kitchens is the time it will take to actually have it installed. Obviously, a new kitchen design which requires a full overhaul will take longer to construct than one which freshens up the existing setup without needing major structural changes. Be careful to take the installation time into account when scheduling any parties or dinners you may want to host. It’s also a good idea to leave extra time on top of any estimates you get, in case of unexpected delays.

Keeping these things in mind, you should be able to get great results when you have a new kitchen designed.

Modernizing Your Home With New Kitchen Cupboards

Modernizing Your Home With New Kitchen Cupboards

Home buying involves many choices. People could make a decision on a house because of one option or choice, but more often than not, it is determined by several factors. Most choices come down to a house being well designed and fitting a families needs. From this an individual or family will expect the house or “investment” to grow in value over time.

Some elements of the house are a bonus. Yes a well designed house makes the choice easier, but then with this choice will come other features that are nice additions. Smaller features of a house are not the deciding factor of home buying, but often help with the decision. One of these smaller features that could go along way is the kitchen cupboards or in other words the kitchen cabinets. Cabinets are not the first thing you think about when entering a house, but once you get to the kitchen, this feature becomes a noticeable and important attribute.

A kitchen cupboard is an old term that has slowly transformed over the last half century. Many homes built before the nineteen fifties had the traditional kitchen cupboards. These cabinets were large solid wood fixtures that were often custom built for each individual house. The kitchen cupboard has transformed over the years and has become smaller in size. Of course this transformation has already started to go in a cycle and the traditional kitchen cupboard, once out of date, is showing up again.

The housing boom in the nineteen fifties, largely brought on by the prosperity after the war caused a large demand for new housing. Tract housing developments called for new ideas for the kitchen. Traditional kitchen cupboards were no longer practical; instead, smaller, sleeker cabinets were needed to fit into these new houses. Houses were smaller and a large kitchen now became obsolete, so the kitchen cupboard was now substituted with the modern kitchen cabinet. For the next forty to fifty years these cabinets were the dominate feature in the kitchen. Of course there are always exceptions, but for the most part, the kitchen cupboard was downsized in height and width, made less appealing, and mostly was there for usage not design.

Fortunately the cycle of design has changed and kitchen cabinets have come full circle. There are more choices today and actually a style of the kitchen cupboard is back in fashion. Large pantry cabinets have come back into a house and from this the renaissance of the kitchen has begun. Another sign of a “throw back” kitchen is the return of the taller kitchen cabinet. Most cabinets are around thirty inches high; however a forty two inch kitchen cabinet or kitchen cupboard had now become an option. Of course if you’re going to buy these larger (forty two inch) kitchen cupboards, you will need a higher ceiling, but if you have that higher ceiling, these kitchen cabinets fill the space nicely.

The kitchen cupboard has come a long way. Once a piece of furniture, it was then reduced to a no-frills, practical use, but now it has made its way into the kitchen as a furnishing with style.

Find out where the experts go to get all of their kitchen cabinets and accessories. Learn how to save thousand on kitchen cabinets by buying them where contractors and builders shop.

The Luxury Kitchen In Your Home

Luxury kitchens are becoming one of the most popular trends in fine living. Besides the obvious design perks of having a stylish space to cook and eat, turning your kitchen into a luxury space might even jumpstart your healthy lifestyle habits.

With amazing space including vast granite countertops to prepare healthy lifestyle foods to refrigerator technology that keeps foods fresher for longer, luxury kitchen design ideas are popping up n websites, blogs and throughout interior design magazines. Architectural designers are also getting a slice of the luxury life as business is booming for original designs in homes and remodels prompted by the recent appeal of sleek, sophisticated fine living spaces.

Size does matter where kitchens are concerned. Some people including couples and families use the kitchen as an extension of their living room. In these instances, and perhaps when designing a fine living space from scratch with an architect, it might be wise to dedicate more space to the area you think most time will be spent. For some, a functional kitchen is more important than a stylish one, and functionality and size can go hand in hand.

Questions to ask when considering kitchen size might include how large your family is, where you see your home and family in ten years and what your current and desired space includes. For the chef who will be cooking and entertaining, choosing a larger space is the best bet so as not to limit the future of your healthy lifestyle or luxury fine living options.

Dishwashers to sinks, refrigerators to ovens, having two of every appliance, even dishwashers, is the trend of the season. Again going with the bigger is better theme, ten years ago one might not be able to imagine having two of all these high end, often multi thousand dollars appliances. For the chef and for those who can afford such a luxury, a double oven is a great way to optimize kitchen operations. With baked potatoes on the top oven and brownies perfectly timed for dessert on the lower oven, double the duty often means a more efficient operation.

Where sinks are concerned, a double sink serves the purpose of dishwashing on one side and soaking vegetables or prepping other foods on the other side. This prevents cross contamination and makes healthy lifestyle choices more convenient for those who think that it is more complicated to create a fine living atmosphere.
